On September 14, iMIXWHATiLIKE, a video podcast hosted by Dr. Jared Ball, graciously hosted Shaka A. Shakur and a member of the Shaka Shakur Freedom Campaign to provide several important and exciting updates.

Shaka begins by addressing how, as the new documentary and his book rapidly circulated, he was unknowingly deprived of access to letters from supporters despite their conformity with VADOC prison regulations. He apologizes for those who have not received a response; it does not mean he decided not to write you back but rather that he did not receive the letter in the first place.
Next, we learn the good news that Shaka has obtained legal council for a civil case pending dealing with an attack that took place in December 2021. Two attorneys joined the case. One of those is Dr. Tanya Harris out of D.C. who has been very proactive, and also a young brother who is also our co-counselor. Shaka shouts them out and recognizes their bravery for doing the kind of work they are doing.
Other updates include the formation of additional Shaka Shakur Freedom Campaign Committees, the New Afrikan Freedom Campaign Committee, the upcoming Indiana Prison Networking Conference, and how the SSFC put its politics into practice through dual power efforts to help Gary, Indiana recover from horrendous hurricanes and floods. Facilitated by Shaka and his wife, Akili Shakur and the SSFC in collaboration with Akili’s Saving Our Families (which operates out of Christ United Methodist Church), Black Lives Matter Gary, and the Indy Liberation Center raised funds to purchase thousands of pounds of dry ice to deliver to people to prevent food from spoiling, organized teams to check on the elderly, etc.
