Thursday, August 21
6:00 – 9:00 pm
Eastside Arts Alliance
2277 International Blvd., Oakland, CA

“Open the prison doors: Let the dragons fly out!”

The first local debut of the new Shaka Shakur documentary is part of the incredible lineup of an event organized by Community Liberation Programs, the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, Haiti Action Network, and Shaka Shakur Freedom Campaign. Titled “New Afrikan Freedom Fighters: Free All Political Prisoners!” in commemoration Black August and the anniversary of George Jackson’s assassination.

The event will showcase art shared by Emory Douglas and Freedom Archives along with a discussion with former political prisoners and folks organizing against the Beast today.

Political Prisoners are among the most principled and committed of us, and are battling u.s. state repression on the front lines. The legacy of their struggle must be our call for liberation. This will be a night to connect our movements, learn from those who have organized on multiple fronts, and build infrastructure that strengthens our independence.

Panelists include:

  • Arthur League, former Black Panther Party member and political prisoner
  • Linda Evans, former Weather Underground Organization and M19CO member and political prisoner
  • Sanyika Bryant, Malcolm X Grassroots Movement
  • Palestinian Youth Movement
