Protest Prison Abuse: Human Rights/Dignity for All!

Friday, October 24
3:00 pm – 6:00 pm
6900 Block of Midlothian Turnpike
Richmond, VA (public median/roadside near VADOC HQ)

For over a year, families and directly impacted people have exposed rampant torture, sexual abuse, starvation, medical neglect, and retaliation inside Virginia prisons. We’ve filed grievances, called, emailed, testified — and been met with silence, cover-ups, and stonewalling. The so-called ombudsman “oversight” structure has proven compromised and toothless.

And the self-immolations continue, even after VADOC’s bogus “safety agreement” meant to deflect accountability. The crisis is escalating. VADOC continues to act with impunity — and we’re taking our demands directly to their doorstep.

In addition to more self-immolations, reports show beatings (even while restrained), sexual humiliation and assault, “ghost tray” starvation, long-term solitary and restraint cells, medical neglect, falsified logs, and digital blackouts that cut off families and lawyers.

On top of that, VADOC guards shot Taneak Turner in the face with rubber bullets at Wallens Ridge, and in June 2025, guards there beat Aubrey McKay to death. This is a human rights emergency in Virginia.

We Demand

  • End torture, sexual abuse, and collective punishment
  • Stop retaliation against whistleblowers and families
  • Shut down Red Onion & Wallens Ridge
  • Fire corrupt VADOC leadership
  • Create independent oversight with real enforcement power
