PSL Atlanta is kicking off Black August with a film screening of “Across Enemy Lines,” a documentary produced by the Shaka Shakur Freedom Campaign, followed by a panel discussion featuring on lessons learned from his struggle featuring:

Why is Shaka A. Shakur still imprisoned, after he has already served the entirety of the sentence for his 2002 conviction? Why is he incarcerated in Virginia – hundreds of miles away from his family – even though he was not convicted of a federal crime?
“Across Enemy Lines” investigates and answers these questions, recounting the story of this New Afrikan Political Prisoner, revolutionary organizer, author, and theorist.
Under capitalism, prisons are a tool of social control that punishes the poor and working class. Though the United States claims there are no political prisoners within its borders, stories like Shaka Shakur expose the truth: the institution of mass incarceration exists to protect the interests of the ruling elite no matter the cost.
