Dear Supporters and Community Members,
On May 24, 2025, UPROAR (Uniting Prisoners, Relatives, Organizing Against Repression) will hold a powerful rally on the sidewalk in front of the Virginia General Assembly Building in Richmond to demand immediate action addressing the inhumane conditions at Red Onion and Wallens Ridge state prisons.
For too long, incarcerated individuals at these facilities have endured systematic abuse, medical neglect, excessive solitary confinement, and denial of basic human rights. Prisoners and their loved ones have been gaslit and silenced, and public officials have turned a blind eye to these injustices.
Who We Are
UPROAR is a pressure and support group of devoted and accountable outside and inside people who coordinate the group, do outreach to loved ones to bring others into the group who need help and support in addressing abuses of imprisoned loved ones, and develop strategies of protest, exposure and resistance.
We Demand
- Shut Down Red Onion & Wallens Ridge Prisons
- Fire VADOC Director Chadwick Dotson
- Fire Chief of Corrections Operations David Robinson
- Establish Independent Oversight with Enforcement Power
- Drop All Retaliatory Charges Against Prisoners
This rally will amplify the voices of those directly impacted, present documented evidence of abuses, and demand legislative action for prison reform and accountability for abuses. We need your presence to show lawmakers that Virginians will not tolerate state-sanctioned abuse in our prison system.
